I’m a Macintosh dealer and do a lot of support for both entry level and experienced customers. I also do training classes for people that want to get the most out of their investment. I’ve started recommending the Digital Classroom book by Chad Chelius for all of my customers. It covers the full range of topics and does it in detail as well as with pictures for some of my “slower” students. This is my solution for when students ask for a copy of the syllabus. I highly recommend it!

From the very basics of setting up your desktop, The Terminal, to video tutorials, this book is a must have for all Snow Leopard users. The full color book, complete with tons of screen shots and tutorials, breaks down the OS like none other. Written with a very user friendly, non-techy style, this book will walk you through everything you want to do with your computer. Some of the topics include; the dock, stacks, setting up user accounts, parental controls, using your mac as a media center, how to back up your material, the internet, creating a network, printing and of course all of you standard mac favorites like mail, ical, ichat, and address book.

More than just a “manual” this book is obviously written by people who use the OS and know the little pitfalls we all have when learning a new operating system. Illustrating and providing video tutorials to reinforce concepts which will save you time and stress. For offices just transitioning over to Snow Leopard, this is the best investment to get your staff up to speed in a hurry.

Whether you use this as a step-by-step tutorial, or as a desk reference, this book and the accompanying CD have it all. From the new user all the way through seasoned pro’s, everyone will find something in this book that will make them more efficient and productive.

I am a seasoned OSX user and have been working on Macs for years. The content in this book has been enlightening and is on-the-money for any level of user. Whether your just making the switch to Macintosh or a veteran, this book is filled with detailed information. Every thing from navigating the finder to setting up your own home network, Chad has covered it all. This book is a must have, ready to grab at any moment of trouble for me. I even figured out how to get that old printer to work with Snow Leopard with the CUPS information in this book. The instructional DVD that is included has all the files needed for the step-by-step tutorials in the book as well as the bonus video training too. I have already recommend this book to friends that have not had a lot of experience with Mac OSX till now and they love it. Thank you to the author for all the hard work! No detail has been left out.

Pro: Excellent tool for exploring the operating system Snow Leopard for purchase. Outstanding reference from install & getting started to troubleshooting. It is light, easy to handle, read, and look things up. Information is outlined for use page by page from overview of the critical path to deep drill down as needed. The author writes from an experienced hands on approach. I can open any chapter in this book and work back or forward without getting lost. It is a gem. The accompanying DVD is an added bonus. It is great for working through difficult learning curves, as needed for those times when I need IT hand holding! It’s the cat’s meow.

Cons: I really can’t think of one. Maybe that it dampens my interest in exploring other reference tools for this operating system. Maybe that it is not out in a Kindle version yet. Hair splitting.
